Feb. 25 (Tues) — South African educator to tour SAISD early childhood education centers
Times and locations listed below.
While in San Antonio as a visiting scholar at UTSA, Dr. Mantsose Jane Sethusha will observe teaching and learning offered through the District’s acclaimed early childhood education program. Sethusha is a lecturer in the College of Education: Department of Early Childhood Education at the University of South Africa and also is a published author and speaker in this field. Her tour of SAISD centers will be:

● 9 to 10 a.m. at the Carvajal ECEC - 225 Arizona St.

● 10:15 to 11:15 a.m. at the Carroll ECEC - 463 Holmgreen Road

Feb. 28 (Fri) — Gamma Sigma Girls and Gamma Sigma Pearls help Habitat for Humanity
Approximately 10 a.m. arrival to 2 p.m. at the Cornerstone Village subdivision, starting at 2311 Jupiter St.
SAISD’s Gamma Sigma Girls. Gamma Sigma Pearls and their advisors will help construct a Habitat for Humanity home in this Southwest Side neighborhood. The teens representing 10 District high schools and five middle schools comprise these new breeds of Girl Scouts.  In 2010, SAISD was chosen as the national pilot for Gamma Sigma Girls. This year for the first time ever, District middle school students were included through the new Gamma Sigma Pearls.

March 1 (Sat) — Second-Annual Middle School Bullying Symposium
8 a.m. to noon at Wheatley Middle School, 415 Gabriel St.
Students and educators from throughout Bexar County are invited to learn how they can work together to prevent bullying. Break-out sessions will include cyberbullying, self esteem and laws on bullying. Symposium co-sponsors are City Year, the Eastside Promise Neighborhood Organization and the YMCA. Sponsor is the Alamo Area Alliance of Black School Educators, whose president and local conference chair, Mae Olison, also is principal of SAISD’s Wheatley Middle School.

March 2 (Sun) — Contemporary Art + Women’s History Month Family Day
Noon to 4 p.m. at the San Antonio Museum of Art, 200 W. Jones Ave.    
Admission will be free for SAISD students and their families. Among the attractions will be art making, food, music and dance. Featured musical entertainers will be San Antonio’s own the Whirly Birds. Family Day is an ongoing event in partnership with SAISD and SAMA. 

Ongoing Mondays thru Thursdays - Feb. 24-27 — Free family fitness classes
5:20 p.m. at the SAISD schools listed below.
The popular Zumba dance fitness program is offered free to the community weekly at eight District campuses, Classes are in partnership with Health Collaborative, a local network of citizens, community organizations and businesses. Zumba will run through June 6. Upcoming sessions will be:

● Feb. 24 (Mon) – at Lanier High School, 1514 W. César Chávez Blvd.

● Feb. 25 (Tues) – at Brackenridge High School, 400 Eagleland Drive
