March 10-14 — Spring Break
All schools and most offices will be closed this week and will re-open Monday, March 17.


March 12 (Wed) — Campus makeover and cookout
1:30 to 3:30 p.m. at Fox Tech High School, 637 N. Main Ave.
While approximately 700 volunteers from the California-based Teamworx beautify this historic downtown campus, students and their parents are invited to cheer them on while enjoying hotdogs and registering to win gift cards. The finished results for the two-house makeover will be celebrated with a big reveal of the finished project at 3 p.m. These upgrades to include fresh paint and new ceiling tiles in select locations are donated and not part of the SAISD Bond 2010 project providing major renovations for Fox Tech this year.


March 17 (Mon) — School Board meeting
5:30 p.m. at Burnet Center, 406 Barrera St.


March 19 (Wed) — Open house for all-new Cameron
5:30 to 7 p.m. at Cameron Elementary School, 3635 Belgium Lane
The community is invited to celebrate and get a sneak peek at this East Side school’s new state-of-the-art campus. Cameron is the first of the 22 SAISD schools slated for major renovations to complete construction. The $12.3 million project to transform the school into a modernized campus and expand square footage by more than 60 percent is funded though SAISD Bond 2010. During the school’s construction phase, classes for Cameron students have been held at the site of SAISD’s former Pfeiffer Academy, where they will continue to attend through the end of the current school year and start at their new campus this fall.


March 20 (Thurs) — SAISD Foundation School Breakfast Showcase
8 a.m. at Briscoe Elementary School, 2015 S. Flores St.
Business and community leaders are invited to learn about the educational opportunities afforded at this internal charter specializing in accelerated learning. The breakfast showcase is part of a series being held in partnership with the SAISD Foundation to highlight the District’s college preparatory programs and specialized schools.


March 20 (Thurs) — Community health fair
6:30 to 8 p.m. at Rhodes Middle School, 3000 Tampico St.
Students, their families and community members from the Rhodes feeder pattern of elementaries and the Carvajal Early Childhood Education Center are invited to attend. A variety of health screenings will be available through a mobile health van. The fair is offered in partnership with the Family Service Association.


March 22 (Sat) — Friends of Bonham Run/Walk
8 a.m. starting at the Blue Star Arts Complex, 116 Blue Star
Proceeds from this event to be held along the Mission Reach will benefit SAISD’s Bonham Academy. Run/Walk sponsor is the non-profit organization Friends of Bonham. For more information visit: www.friendsofbonham.org.
 

March 22 (Sat) — SAISD students to recognized at ‘Do the Write Thing Challenge’ banquet
11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Bright Shawl, 819 Augusta St.
More than 30 middle school-level students Districtwide will be among those from throughout Bexar County honored as finalists in the “Do the Write Thing Challenge” essay contest. Sponsors include District Attorney Susan Reed and the National Campaign to Stop Violence Coalition.


March 22 (Sat) — District Trustee to be inducted into ‘2014 Educator’s Hall of Fame’
Noon at Second Baptist Church Community Center, 3310 E. Commerce St.
Inductees will include SAISD School Board Assistant Secretary James Howard, who will be recognized during a luncheon hosted by sponsor  the National Sorority of Phi Delta Kappa, Gamma Tau Chapter. Howard was selected through recommendations from his peers in honor of his contributions to education.


Ongoing Mondays thru Thursdays – March 17-20 — Free family fitness classes
5:20 p.m. at the SAISD schools listed below.
The popular Zumba dance fitness program is offered free to the community weekly at eight District campuses. Classes are in partnership with Health Collaborative, a local network of citizens, community organizations and businesses. Zumba will run through June 6. Upcoming sessions will be:

● March 17 (Mon) – at Lanier High School, 1514 W. César Chávez Blvd.

● March 18 (Tues) – at Brackenridge High School, 400 Eagleland Drive
