April 25 (Fri) — Battle of Flowers Parade Day
All District schools and most offices will be closed.


April 28 (Mon) — Health and fitness fair
5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at Wilson Elementary School, 1421 Clower St.

Students, their families and community members are invited to attend. A variety of health care and service providers will be available to answer questions and provide information.


May 1 (Thurs) — Mass casualty exercise
10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Edison High School, 701 Santa Monica Drive

Edison Health Professions and Public Safety Magnet students will test their skills in this city-supported Mass Casualty Exercise by working with city first responders and seemingly real injuries. Joining them in this year’s exercise will be students from Fox Tech’s Law Professions Magnet, who will hold a mock hearing, and Brackenridge’s Media Productions Magnet students, who will film the event and produce a video presentation. Mock victims will be played by student actors. Now in its second year, the mock disaster drill will incorporate a larger scale of emergency management scenarios, testing emergency management skills as well as those skills specific to their magnet program. It is in partnership with the San Antonio Fire Department, San Antonio Police Department, San Antonio Office of Emergency Management, San Antonio EMS and San Antonio AirLIFE.


May 2 (Fri) — Pathophysiology Case Prevention Grand Rounds
10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at Fox Tech High School, 637 N. Main Ave.

This event will conclude a two-week exercise during which Health Professions Magnet 11th-graders have worked in groups of four diagnosing and treating their hypothetical patients. During the grand rounds, they will make a case for their final diagnosis. In addition to providing the aspiring physicians with real-world experience, the exercise will help them to earn an advanced measure on their high school diplomas. A luncheon for spectators and participants will follow the event’s conclusion.


May 2 (Fri) — Cinco de Mayo celebration
1 p.m. at Neal Elementary School, 3407 Capitol Ave.

Students from all grade levels will celebrate Mexican culture through dance and a history presentation. Adding to the festivities will be a DJ, flags, flowers and colorful papel picado.


May 3 (Sat) — Friends of Sam Houston Annual Scholarship Breakfast
9 a.m. to noon at Sam Houston High School, 4635 E. Houston St.

Keynote speaker will be Sam Houston alum retired U.S. Army Col. Michael McMillon. Entertainment will be provided by the schools jazz band and the breakfast prepared by Sam Houston’s culinary arts students. Tickets are $25 each and $250 and up for tables. Proceeds fund student scholarships.


May 3 (Sat) — SAISD students to participate in live fire exercise
10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the San Antonio College Fire Academy, 15575 IH-35 South

This exercise will provide Edison High School fire cadets real-world experience in rescue and fire extinguishing, requirements for Fire Fighter I and II certification. Participants are enrolled in Edison’s Public Safety Magnet, offered in partnership with San Antonio College and the San Antonio Fire Department.


Ongoing Mondays thru Thursdays – April 28 thru May 1 — Free family fitness classes
5:20 p.m. at the SAISD schools listed below.

The popular Zumba dance fitness program is offered free to the community weekly at eight District campuses. Classes are in partnership with Health Collaborative, a local network of citizens, community organizations and businesses. Zumba will run through June 6. Upcoming sessions will be:

● April 28 (Mon) – at Lanier High School, 1514 W. César Chávez Blvd.

● April 29 (Tues) – at Brackenridge High School, 400 Eagleland Drive
