The best and brightest educational projects proposed by 37 individuals and teams of SAISD educators will be honored with support funding, thanks to the SAISD Foundation’s Excellence in Education Innovative Grants Program. Grant monies totaling $109,630 will be dispersed to schools across the district.
Thousands of students will benefit from the award monies. Grant winners will be recognized at the elementary, middle and high-school levels. The grants will be used to fund projects and opportunities to enrich student learning.
Following the announcement, foundation trustees, SAISD board members, alumni and local supporters will make surprise classroom visits to let the winning SAISD educators know their projects were selected.
The media is invited to join the well-wishers for the surprise visits of grant winners. One of these exciting grants will be awarded at Woodlawn Hills Elementary at the close of the news conference. Woodlawn Hills will receive a grant for hands-on STEM activities for a campus-wide robotics program and related professional development for teachers.
Media are also invited to the awarding of a grant at a nearby school immediately following the first winner presentation. Details on other award presentations will be provided at the news conference.
The process began earlier in the spring when educators applied for grants to fund innovative projects that they would like to implement to pique student interest, increased student engagement and improve their academic performance.
The funds were made possible by the Foundation’s annual golf tournament fundraiser, bringing in sponsorships and support from 60 companies across the city as well as individual donors. Since the fall of 2007, the SAISD Foundation has awarded more than 1,000 grants and gifts to schools totaling over $1million to benefit SAISD students.
