Making history as the first class of fire cadets from this magnet program to graduate from the SAC First Responders Academy, 16 Edison HS student have earned their Texas Commission of Fire Protection (TCFP) state certification for Firefighter I and II, along with 24 hours of college credit. Of the 16 Edison students, 15 are seniors and one is a junior (and one will not be able to attend the graduation ceremony Friday evening).

Fourteen of the students are continuing on at SAC to earn their associates degree in Fire Science and then plan to transfer to Texas A&M for their undergraduate degree. The 15th student has been accepted to the U.S. Marine Corps fire academy (following boot camp after his high school graduation in June).

SAISD has partnered with San Antonio College (SAC) and the San Antonio Fire and Police Departments to offer a fast track to careers in fire science and law enforcement through the Public Safety Magnet at Edison High School. The Fire and Police Academies are open to juniors and seniors throughout Bexar County and offer college credits equal to a freshman year and industry certifications. They are the only such programs in Bexar County.
