June 21 (Sat) — ‘Annie JR.’ performances
Noon and 2:30 p.m. at Jefferson High School, 723 Donaldson Ave
SAISD’s Summer Musical Theatre Camp will conclude with matinee showings of this adaptation of the Tony award-winning musical based upon comic strip heroine Little Orphan Annie. Throughout the two-week camp, nearly 50 secondary students in grades 6-12 from 11 District schools have been introduced to the foundation skills of theater including character development, costume design, set design and stage lighting. Visual arts students also honed their skills through producing posters, merchandise and other items in preparation of show time.
June 23-26 — Biotechnology GEAR UP summer academy
9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the St. Philip’s Southwest College, 800 Quintana Road
This is among academies being held this summer providing members of the class of 2017 an opportunity to get a jump start on college and careers. The activities are part of the incoming sophomores’ participation in Gaining Early Awareness and Readiness for Undergraduate Programs, designed to help them prepare for success in higher education and beyond.
June 25 (Wed) — Citywide 2014 Fit Family Challenge
5:30 p.m. at Whittier Middle School, 2101 Edison Drive
Whittier is one of the city’s eight host sites for this fifth-annual event to run through Aug. 8 featuring fun fitness activities aimed at motivating families to break away from a sedentary lifestyle. The 2014 Fit Family Challenge is presented by Blue Cross Blue Shield of Texas and organized by San Antonio Sports.

● Infinite Possibilities!, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. thru July 25 at Sam Houston High School, 4635 E. Houston St.
● STEM, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. thru June 26 at the St. Philip’s Southwest College campus, 800 Quintana Road
Ongoing thru Aug. 8 — Power Scholars Academy
8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Wheatley Middle School, 415 Gabriel St.
Students spend their mornings on academics with after-lunch time dedicated to enrichment including physical fitness, robotics, art and theater. Highlighting Fridays are field trips, guest speakers and service-learning projects. Wheatley is one of eight schools nationwide hosting Power Scholars Academy in partnership with the YMCA of the USA and BELL, Building Educators for Life.
