school, obtaining his B.S. degree in Education with an
English minor from Howard Payne University. He received
his Masters of Education from Tarleton State University.

Coach Howey began his teaching and coaching career at Early High School (Early, Texas) in
1989. From 1990 to 1994, he returned to Howard Payne University as the Head Baseball Coach
and then transferred in 1994 to West Texas A & m University also as Head Baseball Coach.
From there, he went to the Canyon School District in Canyon, Texas as the Athletic Director.
During his career he has been directly involved in numerous team and individual championships
as well as nine State Championships. In addition, his final stop on his way to SAISD was
Athletic Director of the Midland ISD.

If you see CAA after Coach Howey’s name, it means that he has been nationally certified as a
Certified Athletic Administrator. His writings have appeared in the THSCA Magazine and in the
Canyon News (as a columnist). You can even find his book, “Winning Created” on amazon.com.
Coach Howey met his wife Jane't (Janae) at Texas Tech in 1984 where she was a member of the
Lady Raider Basketball team as a player and a coach. They have three boys, Colt, Hunter, and

Each job has increased his knowledge of and his respect for athletics. It has also prepared him
for San Antonio’s multi-school district.
