Malachi Nellum is responsible for the San Antonio Independent
School District Swimming, Diving and Water Polo Sports program
as well as the High School Boys and Girls Soccer, Boys and Girls
Golf and the Boys and Girls Wrestling programs.

He is originally from Chicago and moved to San Antonio when he
was 12. He attended King Middle School and Sam Houston High
School and received his B.A. Degree in Interdisciplinary Studies
from Huston-Tillotson College and Masters Degree from Texas
State in Curriculum and Instruction.

Malachi began his teaching career at Ogden Elementary in 1994
as a 4th grade teacher. Other stops along the way in his professional career have been at Wheatley
Middle School and Sam Houston High School.

In his 13 years of coaching, Malachi has held several positions: Head Coach Middle School Girls
Volleyball, Soccer, Track, Basketball, and Golf. As a High School coach, Boys Assistant Football,
Baseball, and Track as well as Girls Head Cross Country and Track Coach. His greatest thrill was
coaching with Wayne Dickey. In a seven-year period Sam Houston appeared in five regional finals
and were part of two State Basketball appearances (bringing home a State Title in 2005 to SAISD).
Malachi says his greatest accomplishment was Coaching Sam Houston Girls Track Team where they
finished in the top three in the area meet - three times in a five-year period.

Malachi started in the SAISD Athletics Office in the summer of 2013 as the Athletic Program
Coordinator. He was promoted to Assistant Director of Athletics in the summer of 2015.

Malachi believes that this wealth of experience will serve him well as he begins his new
leadership role in SAISD. His philosophy - EVERYBODY MATTERS!
