The Dyslexia, Response to Intervention Department oversees programs designed
to ensure that students with disabilities in a general education setting are given a level playing
field so that they graduate prepared for success in higher education. The department provides
appropriate services for students who are identified as dyslexic by trained evaluators and ensures
compliance with Section 504, a provision in the federal law that prohibits the exclusion of
otherwise qualified students with disabilities from participation in any program or activity
receiving federal assistance solely due to his or her disability. The department also oversees the
Response to Intervention program, which identifies and provides early intervention to all
students falling behind their grade-level peers in reading, mathematics, and behavior.
