What: Hirsch ES Community Open House to showcase new building that brings the outdoors in
When: Friday (Aug. 21), 4 p.m.
Where: Hirsch Elementary, 4826 Seabreeze Drive
Hirsch Elementary School students, their parents and the community will get a sneak peek of the newly renovated campus, which will provide students with an inviting learning environment that brings the outdoors in with its numerous skylights and natural lighting in classrooms.
Participants of the Community Open House will have a chance to tour the facility and see first-hand the $13.7 million in Bond 2010 renovations that helped modernize the school.
Renovation highlights include:
- A brand-new building that includes art, music and science labs, new classrooms, including a Life Skills classroom.
- Also in the new building is a cafeteria and kitchen nearly twice the size of the original, with a new stage that has enhanced lighting and audio-visual capabilities.
- New landscaped and shaded Reading Courtyard.
- 40 parking spaces added and new sidewalks to be added for enhanced Americans with Disabilities accessibility.
Funding for the project came from the $515 million bond that voters overwhelmingly approved in November 2010 to finance a variety of improvements throughout the district, including major renovations at 22 schools. Renovations at six of the schools were completed last year. This summer, renovations are wrapping up at seven additional campuses, including Hirsch Elementary.
