Superintendent Message (Aug. 24, 2015)
First Week of School
Aug. 24, 2015
Dear SAISD Staff,
I hope that your first day of school has gotten off to a great start! If your enthusiasm and spirit at last week’s employee Convocation was any indication, I have no doubt you will be bringing a whole lot of passion to your work this year. (See photos below)
The first week of school is critical in setting the tone for the rest of the school year, which is why we’ve put in place a first-week-of-school support plan. We’re taking an all-in approach by assigning up to 85 District staff members, including Cabinet members, to campuses for the entire first week to provide support where needed.
We are here for you and eager to help support you in the launch of the new school year – and the launch of Year 1 of our 5-year plan. You will be hearing a lot about the plan throughout the year – and coming years – as we keep it at the center of all we do so that we can see more students like the 12 outstanding rising seniors who we highlighted at the Convocation. They are a great reminder of why we do what we do.
It’s an exciting time in SAISD, and in other areas, as well. There has never been more interest in commercial and residential development in our District than there is today, and, internally, we are improving our aging facilities so we can offer students modern, first-rate learning environments. On Friday, we held a Community Open House for Hirsch Elementary School, the first in a series of such events we will host in the coming months to celebrate bond milestones.
This is our time to show everyone what we are capable of and that we can become a district of choice and benefit from the massive development that this city is expecting to see.
