2018 Summer School Program Information - Elementary School

Bilingual Academy – PK/K

June 5 – June 29
7:30 AM - 3:30 PM
Sites: Bonham, Cotton, Crockett, Fenwick, Forbes, Hillcrest, Hirsch

Bilingual students will receive specialized instruction in language development and the TEKS necessary to be successful in Kindergarten and 1st grade.

Enrollment – Students eligible for this program must be pre-kindergarten (at least four years of age) and kindergarten students who are currently enrolled in the bilingual program, identified as limited English proficient, and eligible for promotion to kindergarten and first grade in 2018-2019.  Bilingual lead teachers will send the enrollment forms home with students in April.  Enrollment forms are due back to teachers by April 26th, and students will receive confirmation of their participation in the academy by May 11th.  Bilingual Lead Teachers will need to scan and email the student rosters and enrollment forms to This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. Code FM Summer Technology Camp – 4th, 5th, and 6th grades

Group 1: June 4 – June 7
Group 2: June 11 – June 14
Group 3: June 18 – June 21

Daily Schedule: 9:00 AM - 4:00 PM

Site: Ball Academy

Incoming 4th, 5th, and 6th grade students are encouraged to register for one (1) of the three (3) technology enrichment summer camps that will take place during the month of June 2018. Students will receive instruction in technology literacy, such as coding and programming games, the creation of multimedia projects, including art, music, stop-motion and 2D animation, and the fostering of creative expression through filmmaking.

Student Success Initiative - 5th Grade

5th grade students needing to pass STAAR in reading or math after failing the second test administration must attend this tutorial program in order to be considered for promotion by the Grade Placement Committee.  Students will receive instruction in reading or math. Instruction time will be split for students who need to pass both reading and math.

Enrollment – Eligible students will be notified of required summer participation by campus staff in accordance with SSI guidelines and timelines established by the Texas Education Agency.  The first contact with parents should be made immediately after the campus receives the results from the first test administration (scheduled for April 30th).

Transportation

Transportation will be provided to and from the home school and the summer school site free of charge.  Students are responsible for transportation to and from their home school.

Reading Camp (Grades K-3) 

June 5 –June 15
9:00 AM – 1:00 PM
Site: Ball Academy

By attending Reading Camp, students will participate in fun and engaging activities that will promote a love for reading and writing. Throughout each day students will have the opportunity to deepen their knowledge of phonics, phonemic awareness, vocabulary, reading fluency and comprehension while strengthening their writing skills. In order to attend, students must show an academic need and currently be enrolled for the 2017-2018 school year in either Kinder, 1st, 2nd, or 3rd grade.
