San Antonio ISD’s new Wheatley Community School, which held its grand opening in August, is located on the same campus as Wheatley Middle School but is a separate entity offering programs and services that support students, their families and that community at large.

The Oct. 6 event will include music by a live DJ, food and games. In addition, Wheatley Community School partner organizations will provide information about available resources and programs offered at the community school.

Wheatley Community School aims to achieve educational success, as well as physical, social and emotional well-being for students, families and other members of the Wheatley Middle School community. The community school provides families educational and training opportunities and quick access to service agencies, in addition to providing enrichment programs for students. Wheatley Community School is able to achieve this through a strong network of partners that include parents, community members, Eastside Promise Neighborhood, the Choice Neighborhood Initiative and Communities in Schools, among others.

National Night Out is an annual community-building campaign that promotes police-community partnerships and neighborhood camaraderie. Neighborhoods across the nation host block parties, festivals, parades, cookouts and other various community events with safety demonstrations, seminars, youth events, visits from emergency personnel and exhibits.
