Superintendent message about the 5-Year Plan

At San Antonio ISD, we believe that all students, no matter their background, have aspirations for success. Our job as educators is to make sure we give them the solid foundation they need to achieve success in college and in life.

I came on board as superintendent on June first 2015 and quickly began working with staff on a very bold plan to increase student achievement throughout the District. Our District has made strides in recent years, and because of that progress, we’re now in a position to take SAISD to the next level.

Our mission is to transform SAISD into a national model urban school district where every child graduates and is educated so that he or she is prepared to be a contributing member of the community. Today, our vision is that ninety percent of our students graduate on-time…that eighty percent of them attend college… and that seventy-four percent of the those attending college complete their first year without remediation. Those are just some of our 10 goals we will look as a part of our five-year improvement plan.

It will take five years to reach these goals, but we should start seeing some progress within the first year. And we will be reporting that progress to the public. The only way we are going to meet these goals is through an all-in approach.

Today, every SAISD department is focused on meeting the needs of our campuses and the people on the ground level…our teachers and principals. Additional resources and support are being directed to our schools.

The all-in approach also includes the support of the SAISD community, including business…and, of course, our most valuable partners in this effort -- our parents.

We encourage parents to work with us. And we want to know how we can empower you so that together we can ensure that our children reach their dreams. Because together we will have a powerful impact in the lives of our SAISD students.
