SAISD is partnering with Trinity University to put participants of the District’s fall Parent Summit in a college campus environment, reinforcing the kinds of higher education opportunities that lie ahead for their children.
It will be the first time the biannual Parent Summit is held on a college campus, supporting the event’s theme of “College and Career Readiness at All Ages.”
The half-day, conference-style event includes a mix of general and breakout sessions, which will be held in Trinity classrooms. Critical information about college admissions, financial aid and strategies for engaging children at home will be shared.
The event is sponsored by the Trinity University Center for Educational Leadership.
The summit’s goal is to provide parents with information that will help them in making informed decisions about their child’s education and empower them to take an active role in the education process.
College and career resources will be available for parents, and exhibitors from a variety of organizations, including Café College and GenTX, will be
there to share information and answer questions. Parents who attend the conference for its duration will receive a Certificate of Attendance.
In addition to being held on a Saturday to accommodate parents’ schedules, this fall Parent Summit will include activities for children who are 3 and older. Middle and high school-aged children who attend the morning sessions with their parents will participate in college-focused activities at the nearby Alamo Convocation Center after those opening sessions.
Session highlights include:
· 10 a.m. – 10:45 a.m. Parent and Student Panel Participants of this general session will glean first-hand knowledge from a panel of SAISD parents who, with their children, have been through the college acceptance and admissions process. Parents are encouraged to attend this session with their middle and high school-aged children. (Laurie Auditorium, main hall)
· 11 a.m. – 11:45 a.m. College & Career Readiness: What Parents Need to Know This session presented by SAISD’s Guidance and Counseling Department will give parents an overview of steps they can take along the way, in partnership with educators, to ensure their children are well-prepared for college. (Laurie Auditorium, Room 320)
