WORKING IN HEALTHCARE IS REWARDING FOR THOSE WITH A DESIRE TO HELP OTHERS.

This demanding industry offers a diverse range of jobs for many different types of people: from preventing illness and injury, to diagnosing and treating disease, to research and biotechnology. Careers in healthcare can change lives, impact entire communities and the world. The rewards are many. Examine your options.

The Health Professions Institutes at Edison and Fox Tech high schools offer an advanced and rigorous curriculum in all core subjects with a focus on career opportunities in the health industry. Depending on the courses taken, students can earn an endorsement in either Public Service or in STEM (science, technology, engineering and math). An endorsement is a targeted area of interest, and there are five different areas set by the state.

As juniors, students select from the following pathways and complete a related practicum: dental assisting, pharmacy technician, certified nursing assistant, phlebotomy, or EMT-Basic. Students pursuing a Public Service endorsement select a pathway prior to clinical rotations in year three.

Students are offered a number of Advanced Placement and dual-credit courses, with career courses closely aligned to the related programs at San Antonio College. Advanced Placement courses are available to prepare students for rigorous college coursework.

All Institute students are required to participate in UIL, student leadership and service projects while in high school.

*College credits include both dual credit and AP credit-by-exam
