Edward Cardenas named Jefferson HS football coach

SAN ANTONIO, April 1, 2016 – Edward Cardenas, an SAISD alum, is returning to the District as the head football coach for Jefferson High School. He has been the assistant varsity football and baseball coach at O’Connor High School in San Antonio. Cardenas was part of the football coaching regime at O’Connor that reached the state semi-finals in 2012.

Cardenas is a 1985 graduate of Edison High School. He says his primary goal is to win at Jefferson.

“I am a product of the inner city and I feel fortunate to be coming back,” Coach Cardenas said. “There is a lot of tradition at Jefferson. Our goal is to bring that winning environment back to the community. It’s going to take hard work and commitment. There are good kids here and we are excited about the opportunity.”

This will be his first head football coaching job. Prior to coaching at O’Connor, he worked on the coaching staffs at Jefferson, Highlands Fox Tech and Harlandale high schools.

“Coach Cardenas is going to be a great fit for Jefferson,” said Athletic Director Todd Howey. “He is a product of SAISD and comes in highly recommended with a great vision for the overall boys’ athletic program. His impact will be felt immediately.”
