Rhodes Middle School officer video
April 7, 2016
By now you probably have seen some of the media coverage of a YouTube video about a recent incident at Rhodes Middle School between a student and police officer. The video is very disturbing, and I want you to know that a formal investigation has been launched by both District police and administration. The officer has been placed on leave, pending the outcome of the investigation.
It’s difficult to watch the video – and to read and hear the response from people across the country who are outraged and want answers. We want to complete this investigation as quickly as possible, but it also needs to be thorough.
Texas state law requires an investigation to be conducted following a complaint filed against an officer, before that officer can be subject to any disciplinary action. We are working to interview as many witnesses as possible, to ensure we take the appropriate action.
I cannot stress enough that we do not tolerate the use of excessive force in this district. Our students are the reason we are here, and their safety is our top priority. I thank you for your understanding as we work quickly and thoroughly to see this process through.Sincerely,
