What: Nationally award-winning SAISD teacher to hear from the U.S. Secretary of Education for Teacher Appreciation WeekIn honor of Teacher Appreciation Week, Whittier Middle School teacher Laura Servin will get a surprise phone call from U.S. Secretary of Education John B. King Jr. Servin is the only teacher in San Antonio who will receive a call from the Secretary to mark the occasion.
Servin will take the call (on speaker phone) surrounded by her students (an algebra I class).
In February, Servin was the lone Texas teacher to receive the national Milken Educator Award, the nation’s preeminent teacher recognition program, which has been dubbed the “Oscars of Teaching.” She was presented the honor at a surprise schoolwide assembly by Gov. Greg Abbott and Texas Education Agency Commissioner Mike Morath.
