May 9 (Mon) —Congressional Art contest award ceremony
10 a.m. at Highlands High School, 3118 Elgin Ave.
U.S. Rep. Lloyd Doggett will recognize Oscar Pinedo for winning the 2016 Congressional Art Competition for Doggett’s District 35. The Highlands student’s artwork will be exhibited at the U.S. capital for one year.

May 9 (Mon) — School Board meeting A
5:30 p.m. at Burnet Center, 406 Barrera St.

May 10 (Tues) —SAISD Art Showcase opening reception
5:30 p.m. at Fox Tech High School, 637 N. Main Ave.
Art enthusiasts can view creations representing a variety of mediums crafted by students from all grade levels. Each spring this event is held to promote the value of an art education in developing higher-order thinking, cultural awareness and creativity. The showcase will run through May 12.

May 10 (Tues) — Annual White Rose Induction ceremony
6 p.m. at Jefferson High School, 723 Donaldson Ave.
Members of the class of 2023 will be welcomed into the Young Women’s Leadership Academy by accepting a white rose as their names are called. The ceremony is in honor of their selection as incoming 6th-graders this fall at San Antonio’s only all-girls public school.

May 12 (Thurs) — Innovative Grants awards announcement
10 a.m. at Hawthorne Academy, 115 W. Josephine Ave.
District educators will be awarded grants by the SAISD Foundation to fund innovative projects to be implemented this fall.

May 12 (Thurs) — SAISD District Leadership Team meeting
4:45 p.m. at the Burnet Center, 406 Barrera St
The District Leadership Team will review the local innovation plan as part of SAISD's efforts to become a District of Innovation. The DLT comprises parents, community and staff members who meet monthly to advise the school district on education goals and objectives.

May 14 (Sat) — San Antonio Food Bank Farmer’s Market
10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Wheatley Middle School, 415 Gabriel St.
The community is invited to shop for fresh fruits and veggies and enjoy samples of foods prepared as part of cooking demonstrations. This market, which takes place every second Saturday of the month, is one of two to be held monthly at an SAISD East Side campus. The markets are offered in collaboration with the San Antonio Food Bank, SAISD and the Eastside Promise Neighborhood. The host campuses are among a half dozen EPN schools in an area supported through Promise Zone and other federal grants. 

May 15 (Sun)  SAISD students to launch rockets
8 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Hillview Ranch, 4259 Rural Route 1323 Country Road, Willow City
For the sixth consecutive year, Science Research and Design students from SAISD’s Lanier High School will participate in the SystemsGo aeroscience project. The team will be among students representing about 40 high schools statewide at the launch site near Fredericksburg. Rockets will be launched every 20 minutes with the order determined that day.
