May 14 (Sat) — San Antonio Food Bank Farmer’s Market
10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Wheatley Middle School, 415 Gabriel St.
The community is invited to shop for fresh fruits and veggies and enjoy samples of foods prepared as part of cooking demonstrations. This market, which takes place every second Saturday of the month, is one of two to be held monthly at an SAISD East Side campus. The markets are offered in collaboration with the San Antonio Food Bank, SAISD and the Eastside Promise Neighborhood. The host campuses are among a half dozen EPN schools in an area supported through Promise Zone and other federal grants.
May 15 (Sun) — SAISD students to launch rockets
8 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Hillview Ranch, 4259 Rural Route 1323 Country Road, Willow City
For the sixth consecutive year, Science Research and Design students from SAISD’s Lanier High School will participate in the SystemsGo aeroscience project. The team will be among students representing about 40 high schools statewide at the launch site near Fredericksburg. Rockets will be launched every 20 minutes with the order determined that day.

May 17 (Tues) — Fourth-annual mass casualty exercise
10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Edison High School, 701 Santa Monica Drive
Nearly 250 students from six SAISD high schools representing a variety of magnet and career programs will work alongside San Antonio first responders to test their career skills in a mock disaster drill. The scenario will begin with a simulated tornado, followed by a hazardous material spill. Portraying the victims will be student actors. Participating high schools and programs will be: Edison – health professions and public safety; Fox Tech – health and law professions; Brackenridge – media productions; and Burbank, Jefferson and Highlands, criminal justice. Partners include the San Antonio Fire Department, San Antonio Police Department, San Antonio Office of Emergency Management, San Antonio EMS, San Antonio AirLIFE, San Antonio College’s First Responder Academy, the SAISD Police Department, American Red Cross Disaster Services and Texas A&M Engineering TEEX Extension Service.
May 17-20 — SAISD Elementary School Choral Festival
9:15 to 11 a.m. at Cooper Academy, 1700 Tampico St.
This annual musical extravaganza features performances by students Districtwide.
May 18 (Wed) — Citywide 2016 Fit Family Challenge
5:15 p.m. at Whittier Middle School, 2101 Edison Drive
Whittier is one of the city’s seven host sites for this annual 12-week program featuring fun fitness activities aimed at motivating families to break away from a sedentary lifestyle. The 2016 Fit Family Challenge is presented by Blue Cross Blue Shield of Texas and organized by San Antonio Sports.
May 19 (Thurs) — SAISD Night of Champions
6 p.m. at the Alamo Convocation Center, 110 Tuleta Drive
In the spotlight will be members of SAISD’s class of 2016 who will be honored for a variety of athletic accomplishments.

Student art created in collaboration with artists-in-residence from the Southwest School of Arts will be exhibited. The partnership between District schools and the Southwest School of Arts is offered through the SAISD Foundation.

• May 20 (Fri) – 5:30 p.m. at De Zavala Elementary, 2311 San Luis St.
May 21 (Sat) — SAISD Elementary Science Fair & Expo

The top three science fair projects from each school will be entered to compete in this Districtwide contest.
May 21 (Sat) — Teacher Job Fair
8 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Henry B. Gonzalez Convention Center, 900 E. Market St.
Applicants will have the opportunity to interview with principals for the following: career and technical education, coaches, counselors, fine arts, librarians. registered nurses and speech language pathologists. Elementary-level interviews will be 8 a.m. to noon while candidates for the upper grades will be interviewed from1 to 5 p.m. Shuttle service will be available to the convention center for those parking at Brackenridge High School, 400 Eagleland at South St. Mary’s Street. The application process begins online at www.saisd.net.
