June 11 (Sat) — San Antonio Food Bank Farmer’s Market
10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Wheatley Middle School, 415 Gabriel St.
The community is invited to shop for fresh fruits and veggies and enjoy samples of foods prepared as part of cooking demonstrations. This market, which takes place every second Saturday of the month, is one of two to be held monthly at an SAISD East Side campus. The markets are offered in collaboration with the San Antonio Food Bank, SAISD and the Eastside Promise Neighborhood. The host campuses are among a half dozen EPN schools in an area supported through Promise Zone and other federal grants

June 11 (Sat) — Cooper Academy graduation ceremony
3:30 p.m. at the Alamo Convocation Center, 110 Tuleta Drive

June 13 (Mon) — District of Innovation public hearing and School Board meeting
5:30 p.m. p.m. at the Burnet Center, 406 Barrera St.
The June School Board meeting will follow the public hearing.

June 13 thru Aug. 5 — Summer recreation*
7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekdays at 13 SAISD schools
Supervised recreational opportunities are offered in partnership with the San Antonio Parks and Recreation Department’s Summer Youth Program.

June 15 (Wed) — SAISD Summer Musical Theatre & Visual Arts Camp*
10 a.m. to noon and 2 to 4 p.m. (best day and time for media) at Edison High School, 701 Santa Monica Drive
About 100 aspiring thespians in grades 6-12 are spending two weeks honing their musical theater skills including character development, costume design, set design and stage lighting, while visual arts students are improving their skills through producing posters, merchandise and other items in preparation of show time. The camp will conclude with a performance of Disney’s “Aladdin Jr.” at 5:30 and 7:30 p.m. on June 17.

June 15 (Wed) — Citywide 2016 Fit Family Challenge
5:45 p.m. at Whittier Middle School, 2101 Edison Drive
Whittier is one of the city’s eight host sites for this sixth-annual, 12-week program featuring fun fitness activities aimed at motivating families to break away from a sedentary lifestyle. The 2016 Fit Family Challenge is presented by Blue Cross Blue Shield of Texas and organized by San Antonio Sports.

June 15-16 — Seventh-Annual Alamo City Band Camp*
9:30 to 11:40 a.m. (best time and days for media) at Burbank High School, 1002 Edwards St.
About 200 middle school-level band students are spending a week improving their performing skills through both individualized and group training led by SAISD band directors and guest directors from other area school districts.

The community is invited to shop for fresh fruits and veggies and enjoy samples of foods prepared as part of cooking demonstrations. The markets are offered in collaboration with the San Antonio Food Bank, SAISD and the Eastside Promise Neighborhood.
