June 27 thru July 1 — Summer recreation*
7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekdays at 13 SAISD schools
Supervised recreational opportunities will be offered in partnership with the San Antonio Parks and Recreation Department’s Summer Youth Program. The program will resume following the Fourth of July holiday break.

June 28-29 —SAISD’s class of 2017 ‘GEARs UP’ to prepare for college
6 to 7 p.m. at the Burnet Center, 406 Barrera St.                  
Rising seniors who are in the top 10 percent of their class and their parents will be provided a variety of resources to prepare for senior year and the college process, as well as make important connections through meeting SAISD alumni currently attending some of the nation’s best out-of-state colleges. Parents and students will receive books on preparing for college and applications to complete for visiting schools outside of Texas. They also will receive sample college resume pages as part of this year’s requirement for the class of 2017 to apply to at least nine colleges. Every SAISD class of 2017 member is part of GEAR UP, Gaining Early Awareness and Readiness for Undergraduate Programs, designed to help them prepare for success in higher education and beyond.

June 28 thru July 1 — Summer Mariachi Camp*
8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Burbank High School, 1002 Edwards St.
About 130 middle and high school mariachi students Districtwide will spend a week improving their performing skills through both individualized and group training led by SAISD and guest instructors.

June 29 (Wed) — Citywide 2016 Fit Family Challenge
5:45 p.m. at Whittier Middle School, 2101 Edison Drive                  
Whittier is one of the city’s eight host sites for this sixth-annual, 12-week program featuring fun fitness activities aimed at motivating families to break away from a sedentary lifestyle. The 2016 Fit Family Challenge is presented by Blue Cross Blue Shield of Texas and organized by San Antonio Sports.
