Aug. 1 (Mon) — Special School Board meeting
5:30 p.m. at the Burnet Center, 406 Barrera St.

Aug. 1-3 — YWLA summer camps
At the times and locations listed below. 
Students at San Antonio’s only all-girls public school will get a jumpstart on the new school year through learning opportunities including:

NEW LOCATIONAug. 1 (Mon) – 11 a.m. to noon and 1 to 2 p.m., at St. Mary’s University, 1 Camino Santa Maria, in the Sarita Kenedy East Law Library’s Law Alumni Room. (Note: Reporters should enter off of N.W. 36th Street and park in Lot D.)
A group of incoming juniors is hitting the law books this week, thanks to a partnership with the university’s law school for this weeklong camp, which will provide them with an overview of the many careers available in the legal field and an opportunity to hear first-hand from professionals. They also will learn about constitutional law, a topic that will prepare them for U.S. History in the upcoming school year. Texas 4th Court of Appeals Justice Rebeca Martinez will lecture from 11 a.m. to noon, and El Paso County Court at Law Judge Sue Kurita will lecture from 1 to 2 p.m.

Aug. 1-3 – 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at the San Antonio Botanical Garden, 555 Funston Place
Incoming 7th-graders will study botany and Japanese culture through a series of hands-on investigations, field lessons and guest expert presentations.

Aug. 2-4 — Registration for 2016-17 school year
8 to 11 a.m. and 1 to 4 p.m., with one-day extended hours (see below) at SAISD schools
New and returning students who did pre-register in May, or who changed attendance zones during the summer, will need to register at the school they will attend. Wednesday’s registration time will be extended until 7 in the evening. The first day of classes for all SAISD students is Monday, Aug. 22.

Aug. 3 (Wed) — Citywide 2016 Fit Family Challenge
5:45 p.m. at Whittier Middle School, 2101 Edison Drive                  
Whittier is one of the city’s eight host sites for this sixth-annual, 12-week program featuring fun fitness activities aimed at motivating families to break away from a sedentary lifestyle. The 2016 Fit Family Challenge is presented by Blue Cross Blue Shield of Texas and organized by San Antonio Sports

Ongoing thru Aug. 5 — Summer recreation
7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekdays at 13 SAISD schools
Supervised recreational opportunities will be offered in partnership with the San Antonio Parks and Recreation Department’s Summer Youth Program.
