Aug. 13 (Sat) — San Antonio Food Bank Farmer’s Market and back-to-school welcome
10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at Wheatley Middle School, 415 Gabriel St.
In addition to shopping for fresh fruits and veggies and enjoying food samples at this monthly market, parents of registered SAISD students can pick up school supplies and learn about resources available to them as part of the Wheatley Community School. The market is one of two held monthly at an SAISD East Side campus. The markets are offered in collaboration with the San Antonio Food Bank, SAISD and the Eastside Promise Neighborhood. The host campuses are among a half dozen EPN schools in an area supported through Promise Zone and other federal grants

Aug. 15 (Mon) — School Board meeting
5:30 p.m. at the Burnet Center, 406 Barrera St.

Aug. 15-16 — YWLA martial arts summer camp
8:30 a.m. to noon at the Young Women’s Leadership Academy, 2123 W. Huisache Ave.
Students at San Antonio’s only all-girls public school are getting a jumpstart on the new school year through learning opportunities including this camp teaching incoming juniors and seniors self-defense techniques and healthy-living guidelines. NOTE TO MEDIA – Please contact the SAISD Communications Department to coordinate summer program coverage.

Aug. 16-18 — After-School Program registration
3:30 to 7 p.m. at Cooper Academy, 1700 Tampico St.
This after-school learning opportunity for elementary and middle school students is available at up to 70 campuses. Cost is on a sliding scale.

Aug. 17 (Wed) — Districtwide employee convocation 
9 to 11 a.m. at the Freeman Coliseum, 3201 E. Houston St.
“Excellence by Design” will be the theme when the approximately 7,400-member SAISD family of employees gathers to welcome 2016-17. Keynote speaker for Convocation 2016 will be Superintendent Pedro Martinez, who will speak on 2015-16 successes that have laid the foundation for more to come. Scheduled guest speaker will be nationally acclaimed educator Dr. Douglas Fisher.

Aug. 19 (Fri) — Annual ice cream social and summer review
5 p.m. at Jefferson High School, 723 Donaldson Ave.
This yearly extravaganza featuring food, fun and entertainment provides students, staff and alumni an opportunity to celebrate the upcoming school year. Refreshments, snacks and plate dinners will be sold from 5 to 7 p.m., followed by the serving of free ice cream. Pass and Review, the traditional parade featuring student spirit groups and athletes, will start at 7:15 p.m.

Aug. 20 (Sat) — San Antonio Food Bank Farmer’s Market
10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Sam Houston High School, 4635 E. Houston St.
The community is invited to shop for fresh fruits and veggies and enjoy samples of foods prepared as part of cooking demonstrations. This market, which takes place every third Saturday of the month, is one of two held monthly at an SAISD East Side campus. The markets are offered in collaboration with the San Antonio Food Bank, SAISD and the Eastside Promise Neighborhood. The host campuses are among a half dozen EPN schools in an area supported through Promise Zone and other federal grants.
