Sept. 10 (Sat) — SAISD EPIC Saturdays kick off
8 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Jefferson High School, 723 Donaldson Ave.
Featured speaker will be nationally acclaimed educator Dr. Douglas Fisher, who will present the new teaching framework that SAISD has begun adopting this school year. This will be the first of five EPIC Saturdays to run through February. Each will provide SAISD teachers daylong conference-style events featuring keynote addresses by some of the nation’s best education minds and breakout sessions that deliver tailored learning.
 
Sept. 10 (Sat) — My Brother’s Keeper mentoring program orientation
10 a.m. at Davis Middle School, 4702 E. Houston St.
The orientation will be for educators, businessmen and other professionals, along with alumni from nearby Sam Houston High School, who have been invited to participate in a mentoring program for boys at this East Side-area campus.
 
Sept. 10 (Sat) — San Antonio Food Bank Farmer’s Market
10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Wheatley Middle School, 415 Gabriel St.
The community is invited to shop for fresh fruits and veggies and enjoy samples of foods prepared as part of cooking demonstrations. This market, which takes place every second Saturday of the month, is one of two to be held monthly at an SAISD East Side campus. The markets are offered in collaboration with the San Antonio Food Bank, SAISD and the Eastside Promise Neighborhood. The host campuses are among a half dozen EPN schools in an area supported through Promise Zone and other federal grants.
 
Sept. 12 (Mon) — School Board meeting A
5:30 p.m. at the Burnet Center, 406 Barrera St.
 
Sept. 12-15 — Free family fitness classes
5:30 p.m. at the SAISD schools listed below.
The popular Zumba dance fitness program classes are free and offered in partnership with Health Collaborative, a local network of citizens, community organizations and businesses. Upcoming sessions will be:
 
● Sept. 12 (Mon) – at Burbank High School, 1002 Edwards St.
● Sept. 13 (Tues) – at Jefferson High School, 723 Donaldson Ave.
● Sept. 14 (Wed) – at Whittier Middle School, 2101 Edison Drive
● Sept. 15 (Thurs) – at Tafolla Middle School, 1303 W. César E. Chávez Blvd.
 
Sept. 13 (Tues) — Coffee at the curb for parents
7:15 a.m.  at Highland Hills Elementary, 734 Glamis Ave.
As they drop their children off for school, parents will be greeted by employees from the school’s business partner Jefferson Bank, who will hand out coffee, sweet treats and fliers promoting Highland Hills’ open house and principal’s coffee.
