Oct. 8 (Sat) — SAISD EPIC Saturdays

Featured speaker will be Dr. Karen Mapp, who will present on ways to develop a comprehensive understanding of the link between family and community engagement, student achievement and school improvement. This will be the second of five EPIC Saturdays to run through February. Each will provide SAISD teachers conference-style events featuring keynote addresses by some of the nation’s best education minds and breakout sessions that deliver tailored learning.

Oct. 11 (Tues) — Georgetown University information session
6:30 to 8 p.m. at the Young Women’s Leadership Academy, 2123 W. Huisache Ave.
All SAISD parents, students and counselors are invited to learn about the admissions process for this top-tier university.
Oct, 11-13 — Bond and Tax Ratification Elections community meetings

These are among eight meetings to provide the public information and an opportunity to ask questions about SAISD’s Nov. 8 Bond and Tax Ratification proposals. Presenters will be Superintendent Pedro Martinez and the School Board member who represents the host site’s Trustee district. Up for voter consideration are a $450 million bond to fund extensive renovations at 13 schools and a TRE, which would assist the District in creating 21st-century classrooms Districtwide and expanded learning opportunities outside the normal school day. Next week’s meetings will be:

● Oct. 12 (Wed) – at Jefferson High School, 723 Donaldson Ave.
● Oct. 13 (Thurs) – at Burbank High School, 1002 Edwards St.
Oct. 10-13 — Free family fitness classes

The popular Zumba dance fitness program classes are free and offered in partnership with Health Collaborative, a local network of citizens, community organizations and businesses. Upcoming sessions will be:
