2 p.m. starting at the Beacon Hill Elementary gym, 1411 W. Ashby Place
Students representing all grade levels, starting with pre-kinder and ending with 5th-graders, may dress as their favorite fictional character for a run around their neighborhood. After exiting the school grounds, the route will proceed down West French Place, St. Ann Street and back to the school. As students finish their portion of the run, they will gather together to cheer the others on.

Nov. 1 (Tues) — Voter bus trip
1:10 to 2:40 p.m. starting at Brackenridge High School, 400 Eagleland and proceeding to the Bexar County Elections Department, 1103 S. Frio St.
Brackenridge 12th-graders who are registered voters will board buses bound for the Bexar County Elections Department, where they will vote in their first presidential election. This exercise in civic responsibility follows a class discussion that started last year on how students can become more involved their society and have their voices heard. This led to discussions on the importance of voting, resulting in a promise of a ride to the polls for those who register to vote in the Nov. 8 election. Students also have been encouraged to ask their family members to join them in voting. The voter bus trip is sponsored by Brackenridge’s Department of Social Studies.

Nov. 2 (Wed) — Magnet and Specialized Schools Fair
5 to 7 p.m. at the Alamo Convocation Center, 110 Tuleta Drive
Along with career-specific magnets, the District offers a variety of specialized schools with non-traditional grade ranges. The magnets are tightly aligned to Alamo Colleges’ programs and offer students the opportunity to earn up to 45 hours of college credit by graduation while, in most cases, also being introduced to a high-demand career. SAISD’s 19 specialized schools are offered across different grade levels, with diverse areas of focus and innovative methods of instruction. Applications will be taken for students entering pre-kinder or kindergarten, as well as those who will begin the 4th, 6th or 9th grades next year. For more information visit
