Nov. 12 (Sat) — SAISD EPIC Saturday
8 a.m. to 2:45 p.m. at Lanier High School, 1514 W. César E. Chávez Blvd.
Keynote speaker will be literacy expert Pam Allyn, who will discuss making best practices come to life by building on children’s key strengths and immersing them in an intellectually invigorating, emotionally nurturing, literature-rich community. This will be the third of five EPIC Saturdays to run through February. Each provides SAISD teachers conference-style events featuring keynote addresses by some of the nation’s best education minds and breakout sessions that deliver tailored learning.

Nov. 14 and 15 — SAISD Spanish Spelling Bee premiers for secondary students
9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Cooper Academy, 1700 Tampico St.
Students representing middle and high schools Districtwide will compete in their ability to spell in Spanish. The middle school contest will be on Nov.14, while the high school-level competition will take place the following day. This will be the first year for SAISD secondary students to compete in a Districtwide Spanish Spelling Bee. First-place winners will advance to the next level of competition in February.

Nov. 15 (Tues) — Dual-language informational meeting
5 p.m. (in Spanish) and 6 p.m. (in English), at Twain Middle School, 2411 San Pedro Ave.
Parents are invited to learn about the Twain Dual Language Academy, where students will have the opportunity to become fluent in both English and Spanish. The school’s program, developed with input from local and national experts in dual-language education, is set to debut in August 2017 with grades pre-kinder to 2nd, and expanding to grade 8 in subsequent years This will be the first of two informational meetings on the Twain Dual Language Academy, which will be open to students throughout Bexar County. As part of its transition from a traditional middle school, Twain’s last remaining students will graduate as 8th-graders in spring 2018.

Nov. 14-17 — Free family fitness classes
5:30 p.m. at the SAISD schools listed below.
The popular Zumba dance fitness program classes are free and offered in partnership with Health Collaborative, a local network of citizens, community organizations and businesses. Upcoming sessions will be:
