SAISD is creating more opportunities for students and their parents to explore educational models that may best address their children’s needs. In August of 2017, the Steele Montessori Academy will open for ages 4-6, expanding to age 12 in subsequent years.
The academy is part of SAISD’s plans to expand innovative offerings for students. As of its opening date, Steele Montessori Academy will be the only Montessori school to be located in the southern portion of San Antonio and Bexar County.
The program is being developed in collaboration with the National Center for Montessori in the Public Sector, including Sara P. Suchman, who will be the event’s keynote speaker. Montessori is a method of education that is based on deeply engaging, hands-on and self-paced learning, while also fostering children’s natural curiosity, imagination and love of learning.
Steele Montessori Academy will be open to students across Bexar County, with first priority given to those within Steele Elementary School’s former attendance boundaries.
