Feb. 1 (Wed) — Steele Montessori information session

6 p.m. at Steele Montessori Academy (former Steele Elementary site), 722 Haggin St. (entrance on Broadbent Avenue)
Interested parents are invited to find out about this school to feature learning through hands-on experience and self-directed activity. Students will be taught by trained Montessori teachers with a focus on the whole child. This specialized school, set to debut in August, is open to children ages 4, 5 and 6 from throughout Bexar County.

Feb. 2 (Thurs) — SAISD STEM students treated to ‘Hidden Figures’ showing
10 a.m. at the Alamo Drafthouse Cinema-Westlakes, 1255 SW Loop 410
Jefferson High School Advanced Placement stats,  AP calculus and calculus students will have the opportunity to see the movie version of this historic true story and to be inspired. “Hidden Figures” details how a team of African American women mathematicians contributed to the success of NASA’s launch of astronaut John Glenn into orbit. Accompanying the students will be their college readiness counselor, who will later lead discussions about the students pursuing the STEM fields of, science, technology, engineering and math. Funding is provided by the Alamo Drafthouse and the SAISD Foundation.

Feb. 2 (Thurs) — Information session for CAST Tech
6:30 p.m. at CAST Tech High School, located on the Fox Tech campus, 637 N. Main Ave.
Incoming 9th-graders and their families are invited to find out more about this high tech school, which prepares students for careers in technology, business and entrepreneurism, and is located in San Antonio’s Tech District corridor with close access for student internships. The school is set to open this August. Students will have the opportunity to earn college credits, industry certificates, and guaranteed job interviews after high school. Feb. 2 and 3 — The ‘Beauty of Dual Language’ community conversations
6 to 8 p.m. at the schools listed below.
The public is invited to learn about the benefits of dual language programs and the great opportunity to develop higher cognitive and academic skills in two languages. Leading this discussion will be nationally recognized education and dual language experts Drs. Virginia Collier  and Wayne Thomas on:

● Feb. 2 (Thurs) – at Twain Dual Language Academy, 2411 San Pedro Ave,

● Feb. 3 (Fri) – at Bonham Dual Language Academy, 925 S. St. Mary’s St.

Ongoing thru Feb. 17 — Filing for May 6 election
8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. weekdays at SAISD’s Governmental & Community Relations Department at the Gonzales Center, 518 E. Magnolia Ave.
Qualified SAISD residents interested in serving as a Trustee for Single Member District 1, 3, 4 or 7 may file their applications for a place on the ballot. Candidate information packets also are available. There is no fee to file and individuals must reside in the single member district for which they file.

Free family fitness classes
Jan. 30 thru Feb. 25:30 p.m. at the SAISD schools listed below.
The popular Zumba dance fitness program classes are free and offered in partnership with Health Collaborative, a local network of citizens, community organizations and businesses. Upcoming sessions will be:
