March 5 (Sun) — Mythical Magic Creatures First Sundays for Families Day
11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the San Antonio Museum of Art, 200 W. Jones Ave.
Admission will be free for SAISD students and their families. Among the featured attractions will be opportunities for participants to invent their own magical animals after learning about mythical creatures including Chinese dragons, hydras and Pegasus. First Sundays for Families is an ongoing partnership between SAISD and SAMA and is made possible through a variety of grants.
March 7 (Tues) — ‘STAAR’ pep rally visit from El Rey Feo
1:30 p.m. at Ball Elementary, 343 Koehler Court
This member of San Antonio Fiesta royalty will cheer 3rd-6th-grade students on to success on the upcoming STAAR – State of Texas Assessments of Academic Readiness – exam. Covering his visit will be the school’s 4th-grade journalists, who will interview El Rey Feo for a story.
March 7 (Tues) — AP Scholar Celebration
6 to 8 p.m. at the McNay Art Museum, 6000 N. New Braunfels Ave.
The event will celebrate 42 students Districtwide for their success on Advanced Placement courses. The AP Scholar Award, presented by the College Board, recognizes teens who have demonstrated outstanding college-level achievement through AP courses and exams. The celebration will be held through a donation from the SAISD Foundation.
March 7-9 – Kinder Roundup
8 to 11 a.m. and 1 to 4 p.m. (extended hours until 7 p.m.) at all elementaries
Parents of children who will start kindergarten in 2017-18 are invited to get a jump start on next school year by registering them at the school they will attend.
March 11 (Sat) — ‘Master Teacher’ job fair
10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Henry B. Gonzalez Convention Center, 900 E Market St.
SAISD is seeking to hire teachers who are true “masters” of their craft – excellent and highly skilled educators who have demonstrated they can achieve high levels of student success. This new role within SAISD also provides incentives for them to work with students who have the greatest need. Free parking will be available at Brackenridge High School, 400 Eagleland Drive, with continuous shuttle transportation from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Free family fitness classes
March 6-9 — 5:30 p.m. at the SAISD schools listed below.
The popular Zumba dance fitness program classes are free and offered in partnership with Health Collaborative, a local network of citizens, community organizations and businesses. Upcoming sessions will be:
