Master Teacher

  • $7,500 stipend for extended-day teaching (requires five additional hours per week during the school year).
  • $7,500 stipend for an optional 20 days of summer school instruction.
  • Secondary math, science, or bilingual teachers are eligible for an additional $2,000 stipend.
  • Access to tuition-free graduate degrees and extensive Master Teacher training.

Minimum Qualifications

  • At least two years of successful teaching as measured by performance evaluations and student data.
  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited four-year college or university.
  • Valid Texas Teaching Certificate with required endorsements for subject and level assigned.

Successful applicants will complete a four-step selection process.

  • Step 1: Submit application and pass initial eligibility screen.
  • Step 2: If selected, respond to a series of short-answer questions.
  • Step 3: If selected, submit a video sample lesson.
  • Step 4: If selected, complete an on-campus interview.

As part of the Master Teacher initiative, SAISD also is piloting a new program in partnership with the Relay Graduate School of Education starting with the 2017-18 school year. This is a new, separate role from the one described above, but will have similar benefits:

Ogden Elementary Master Teachers will:
  • Have an opportunity to help the district launch a teaching residency program at Ogden Elementary.
  • Serve as a mentor teacher to resident interns, teaching them the most reliable techniques and content for their classrooms. (Teaching residents will earn their certification in the first year of the program, while serving as an apprentice to a mentor Master Teacher.)
  • Learn more about the teaching experience at Ogden Elementary Lab School.

  • Stipend of $7,500 for mentor roles and extended days.
  • Stipend of $5,000 for required 15 days of 2017 summer professional development.
  • Additional stipend if chosen to become grade-level or department chair.
  • Access to tuition-free graduate degrees and extensive Master Teacher training.
