April 10, 2017 – Christina Martinez was officially sworn in tonight as the District 6 Trustee during the regular board meeting of the San Antonio Independent School District (SAISD). At the last Board business meeting on March 27, the Board of Trustees voted unanimously to appoint her from a pool of five applicants to fill an unexpired term. Her term expires in 2019.

Martinez, vice president of external relations with Big Brothers Big Sisters of South Texas, will fill the vacancy created when Olga Hernandez resigned Feb. 21, 2017.  She is a life-long resident of SAISD and parent of two SAISD students. She has worked in nonprofit organizations for more than 10 years, including Youth Literacy and Girl Scouts, supporting partnerships with the District.

Each SAISD Trustee represents one of seven single-member districts and is elected by voters of that district. Trustees serve four-year terms.

District 6 includes Edison High School, Twain and Whittier middle schools, Advanced Learning Academy (Euclid campus) and the elementary schools Arnold, Beacon Hill, Cotton, Franklin, Neal, Rogers and Wilson.
