Jesse Monreal named Edison HS football coach

SAN ANTONIO, May 18, 2017 – Jesse Monreal has been named the head football coach at Edison High School. Monreal had served as the defensive coordinator at the school since 2012.

Monreal inherits a Golden Bears team that finished 7-3 overall and 5-3 in District 28-5A play last season. Two years ago, the Bears earned a berth in the state playoffs.“I am extremely blessed and honored to be named as the head football coach at Edison,” said Monreal, a 1987 graduate of Fox Tech HS. “There are high expectations here. We want to fulfill and succeed those expectations. The Edison community has a lot of pride. And the kids deserve the very best. We are very excited.”

This is Monreal’s first head coaching job. He started his coaching career at Harris Middle School in 2002.

“Coach Monreal is a perfect fit for the Edison Bears,” SAISD Athletic Director Todd Howey said. “He is a product of the SAISD and has worked his way up the coaching ladder. We are excited to have a man that loves Edison High School and its community as much as Jesse does.”

Monreal obtained his bachelor and master degrees from the University of Incarnate Word.

“A parent of Edison alumni, and dedicated Edison faculty member, Coach Monreal is as committed to his students as if they were his own children,” said Charlie Munoz, principal at Edison HS. “His community involvement and Edison Pride make him an asset to the Edison Leadership team.”
