May 20 (Sat) — Make a Splash with Summer Reading
9 to 11 a.m. at the Alamo Convocation Center, 110 Tuleta Drive
More than 200 students Districtwide in grades kinder through 3rd have been selected to participate in a variety of literacy events, and will receive 10 books for their home library. Available to provide parents with information will be representatives from BiblioTech and the San Antonio Public Library.
May 20 (Sat) — Annual Gifted and Talented Showcase
9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Brackenridge High School, 400 Eagleland Drive
Projects from GT students Districtwide will reflect this year’s theme of Change, either personally, culturally or in the community.
May 20 (Sat) — SAISD Elementary and Secondary Teacher Job Fair
9 a.m. to noon and 2 to 5 p.m. at the Henry B. Gonzalez Convention Center, Hemisfair Ballroom, 900 E. Market St.
Initial screening interviews will be held for certified-teacher candidates. Elementary-level candidates will be interviewed during the first session, with interviews for the secondary-level candidates to take place during the last session. Interviews also will be conducted for counselors, librarians, nurses, speech-language pathologists and coaches. Additionally, applications will be accepted for adult education teachers. Free parking and a shuttle service will be available at Brackenridge High School, 400 Eagleland Drive. The application process begins online at www.saisd.net.

Just in time for summer reading, students can choose books to keep. The giveaways are courtesy of Book Buddies, a local nonprofit affiliated with SAYL – San Antonio Youth Literacy. The following are among schools whose students will benefit next week.
• May 23 (Tues) - 8:30 a.m. at Rodriguez Elementary, 3626 W. César E. Chávez Blvd.
• May 24 (Wed) - 9:30 a.m. at Sarah King Elementary, 1001 Ceralvo St.
May 24 (Wed) — Middle School Partners Program End-of-Year Celebration
6 to 8 p.m. at the Alamo Convocation Center, 110 Tuleta Drive
Students enrolled in SAISD’s Middle School Partners Program representing 14 campuses and their families will be treated to an evening of festivities featuring entertainment, refreshments and opportunities to win prizes. Outstanding students will be recognized and the MSP Teacher of the Year will be named. Guest speakers will include Lanier High School sophomore Faith Mitchell, a former MSP student who recently was inducted into the National Honor Society. Through the MSP program, middle school students who have been retained by at least one grade are able to get back on track to graduate with their peers.
May 26 (Fri) — Rising Star Teacher Ceremony
5 to 7 p.m. at the Alamo Convocation Center, 110 Tuleta Drive
Awards will be presented to outstanding first-year teachers representing the levels of pre-kinder, elementary, middle and high school. Honorees are chosen from nominees selected by their principals and receive trophies and vouchers for school supplies.
