June 19-23 — Summer Mariachi Camp*
8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Brackenridge High School, 400 Eagleland Drive
More than 200 middle and high school mariachi students Districtwide will spend a week improving their performing skills through both individualized and group training led by SAISD and guest instructors. The best opportunities for media coverage will be Thursday, June 22 and during the concluding concert scheduled for 4 p.m. on Friday, June 23.
June 19-23 — SAISD Summer Musical Theatre & Visual Arts Camp*
8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Lanier High School, 1514 W. César E. Chávez Blvd.
Teachers and approximately 90 students from SAISD's theatre and art programs are collaborating on a fully staged musical theatre production of Roald Dahl's "Willy Wonka." Theatre arts students are perfecting their singing, acting and dancing skills while visual arts students are sharpening their drawing, painting and design skills. The two-week camp will culminate with two, free public performances at 5:30 and 7:30 p.m. on Friday, June 23.
June 19 (Mon) — Public hearing and School Board meeting B
5:30 p.m. at the Burnet Center, 406 Barrera St.
The School Board meeting will follow a public hearing on the proposed budget and tax rate for 2017-18.
June 19 and 20 — SAISD PD leadership training
8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at the Cooper Learning Center, 1700 Tampico St.
“The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People” training session is for all District Police Department personnel in partnership with the Stephen R. Covey organization and Alamo Colleges.
June 21 (Wed) — Citywide 2017 Fit Family Challenge
5:15 p.m. at Rogers Elementary, 620 McIlvaine St.
Rogers is one of the city’s eight host sites for this annual 12-week program featuring fun fitness activities aimed at motivating families to break away from a sedentary lifestyle. The 2017 Fit Family Challenge is presented by Blue Cross Blue Shield of Texas and organized by San Antonio Sports.
Ongoing thru June 30 — Community School Summer Enrichment Camp*
8:30 to 11:30 a.m. weekdays at Wheatley Middle School, 415 Gabriel St.
Academic enrichment opportunities are being offered to Wheatley 7th- and 8th-graders. The camp is part of Wheatley’s designation as a community-based school for EastPoint San Antonio - a four-mile section of the city supported through Promise Zone and other federal grants.
