The SAISD Athletics Department is rolling out the Athletic Conditioning & Enrichment pilot program, or ACE, for middle school students. The program opens up the weight rooms at 12 middle schools for summer use. The program not only allows for the students to stay in shape, but also provides them an opportunity to stay engaged and connected to their school throughout the summer, helping them build stronger relationships with their peers and their coaches and to gain knowledge in health and nutrition.

Coaches are working with students to improve muscular strength as well as muscular and cardiovascular endurance. Each site is staffed with four coaches for a two-hour period during four days of the week.

In collaboration with the district summer meals program, each participant also receives two healthy meals a day. Nutrition sessions also are being provided to help students understand the connection between good nutrition habits and being physically fit.
