Oct. 3 (Tues) — Seventh-Annual INSPIRE Awards
5:30 to 9 p.m. at the Henry B. Gonzalez Center, Starts at Night Ballroom, 900 E. Market St.
Again this year, District patrons can enjoy an evening of inspiring company and student entertainment while contributing to enriched educational opportunities for SAISD students. To be honored will be past and present District shining stars comprising alumni and educators who are making a significant difference in education and for their ability to inspire others. Outstanding SAISD alumni to be recognized, their categories and high schools are: Leadership, Dr. Maria Hernandez Ferrier, Texas A&M University-San Antonio’s president emerita and a former White House education advisor – Jefferson; Excellence, Roy Barrera Sr., prominent local attorney and former Texas secretary of state - Fox Tech; and Service, Jim Lehrer, journalist, novelist and former national news anchor – Jefferson. To be honored in the Friend of SAISD category will be CPS Energy, while SAISD educators will be recognized for Innovation. The INSPIRE Awards sponsor is the SAISD Foundation, with proceeds supporting the organization's role in funding teacher grants and enrichment opportunities to benefit students.
CANCELLED - Oct. 3 (Tues) — Marching Band Showcase
6:30 p.m. at Alamo Stadium, 110 Tuleta Drive
This annual fall treat for half-time show enthusiasts features marching musicians from high schools Districtwide. Admission is free, and the festival is open to the public.
Oct. 2-5 — Free family fitness classes
5:30 p.m. at the SAISD schools listed below.
The popular Zumba dance fitness program classes are free and offered in partnership with Health Collaborative, a local network of citizens, community organizations and businesses. Upcoming sessions will be:
