Nov. 4 (Sat) — Urban Communities Teen Summit
9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at Sam Houston High School, 4635 E. Houston St.
Teens from throughout San Antonio’s urban areas will address important issues in their community with their peers, business owners, educators, ministers and police officers. In preparation, P.A.M. Media Outreach representatives spent eight weeks training 16 to 25 youth leaders in organizing the summit. Its outcome will be a call to action that will help build a process of bringing the community and other sectors together to form a relationship and partnership with each other.

Nov. 9 (Thurs) — Books and Breakfast
9 a.m. at Douglass Elementary, 318 E. Martin Luther King Drive
Parents of 1st-graders are invited to have breakfast with their child and participate in a make-and-take phonics activity they can do at home. Students also will receive free new books for their home library. Participants will include San Antonio Public Library representatives.

Nov. 10 (Fri) — Plaque rededication for Vietnam War casualties
10:15 a.m. at Edison High School, 701 Santa Monica Drive
Edison alumni who served in the military, including members of the school’s first JROTC formed in 1967, will be in attendance. The plaque honoring three Edison students who lost their lives in Vietnam will be placed on a wall in the school’s armory. The plaque rededication will follow a pancake breakfast for the veterans, which will start at 8:30 a.m.

Nov. 6-9 — Free family fitness classes
5:30 p.m. at the SAISD schools listed below.
The popular Zumba dance fitness program classes are free and offered in partnership with Health Collaborative, a local network of citizens, community organizations and businesses. Upcoming sessions will be:

● Nov. 6 (Mon) – at Travis Early College High School, 1915 N. Main Ave.
● Nov. 7 (Tues) – at Young Women’s Leadership Academy, 2123 W. Huisache Ave.
● Nov. 8 (Wed) – at Whittier Middle School, 2101 Edison Drive
● Nov. 9 (Thurs) – at Herff Elementary, 996 S. Hackberry St.
● Nov. 9 (Thurs) – at Tafolla Middle School, 1303 W. César E. Chávez Blvd.
