Parents and the community are invited to this official celebration of the city’s only public Montessori school, which debuted in August. The school is open to students across Bexar County.
Steele Montessori Academy opened this school year with ages 3 to 6 (PK, Kinder and 1st grade), and will expand to PK-6th-grade by adding a grade each year. Its program was developed in collaboration with the National Center for Montessori in the Public Sector. Students are taught by trained Montessori teachers with a focus on the whole child and learn through hands-on experience and self-directed activity.
Festivities will include a showcase of Steele student artistry and performances by the Fox Tech High School mariachi.
Serving as a backdrop for the refreshment table will be a large, paper tree cut-out with painted hand-print leaves of each student, with classes represented by a different color. Other artwork adorning the gym will include collages of 18 owls in the moonlight, 15 Andy Warhol-style vegetable stamp prints and 3D-oversized paper flowers. Guests may pose for a photo beside two large wings featuring colorful paper feathers and the message “What lifts me up."
