Students, faculty, District administration and representatives from the Alamo Colleges District are gathering for the official celebration of Travis Early College High School being named a 2017 National Blue Ribbon School based on its overall academic excellence.

Blue Ribbon Schools is a coveted honor awarded by the U.S. Department of Education. The program, founded in 1982, recognizes public and private elementary, middle and high schools where students perform at very high levels.

Schools are honored in one of two performance categories: Exemplary-High Performing Schools or Exemplary-Achievement Gap Closing Schools. Travis was selected as an Exemplary-High Performing School.

At Travis, college-level learning begins as early as 9th grade with students enrolling in college courses at San Antonio College, the school’s program partner.

To honor the achievement, SAC is providing matching T-shirts for students and polo shirts for faculty and staff. These items will be worn during the event.

Those in attendance will enjoy cupcakes with the National Blue Ribbon logo.

Later that afternoon, SAC also is sponsoring hamburgers and hotdogs for the students. The celebratory meal will be served to the students by parents and faculty.

Travis Early College High School is open to students across Bexar County. Applications for incoming 9th graders for the 2018-19 year are being accepted now through Jan. 31, 2018 at http://saisdchoice.com
