Graduate Programs and Career Pathways

SAISD is committed to providing multiple avenues and ongoing support for professional growth for our instructional staff.

Below is an overview of graduate programs and leadership programs available to teachers, educators and leaders in our District. Click on the University links below to see instructions on applying.

SAISD will provide full tuition coverage for the graduate programs.

Participants will be responsible for the application fee, student fees and textbooks every semester.

Individuals selected agree to diligently pursue and obtain a Master’s degree while continuing full-time employment with SAISD. Upon completion of the degree, participants agree to remain in SAISD for 3 consecutive, complete academic years.

Graduate program overview

Our Lady of the Lake University logo
Tracks available:  Integrated Science Teaching | Reading Specialist | Bilingual
Eligible staff:  TIF campus teachers with 2+ years of experience
Duration:  36-hours (2 years), starting Spring 2019 and Summer 2019
Class-time:  1 course/long semester, 2 courses in summer. Classes meet once/week for 2.75 hours @ OLLU.
Deadline:  March 17, 2019

Relay GSE logo
Tracks available:  Math | ELA | Science 
Eligible staff:  Middle and high school teachers with 2+ years of experience
Duration:  4 semesters + Master’s defense work, program begins Summer 2019
Class-time:  Class meets once/week for 2.5 hrs., and (1) half-day Saturday/month at Relay
Deadline:  March 17, 2019

TAMU-SA logo
Tracks available:  Reading (and Teacher Certifications) | Bilingual Education (TIF campuses teachers with 2+ yrs. exp.)
Eligible staff:  Teachers and Implementation Specialists with 2+ years of experience
Duration:  36-hours (2 years), starting in Fall 2019
Class-time:  2 courses/semester (8 wks each). Classes meet once/week for 2.5 hours at an SAISD location
Deadline:  March 17, 2019

Tracks available:  Bicultural-bilingual education concentration
Eligible staff:  TIF campus teachers with 2+ years of experience
Duration:  36-hours (2 years), starting in Fall 2019
Class-time:  Classes meet once/week for 2.75 hours at SAISD location (summer classes are held at UTSA DT campus)
Deadline:  March 17, 2019

Pathway to Teaching

A low-cost pathway to a teaching certification, master’s degree and job placement. Open to all majors.

Relay GSE logo
Eligible staff: Instructional assistants, paraprofessionals and substitute teachers who already have earned a Bachelor’s degree
Duration: Two years: 1st year leading small groups and working your way to instruct entire class for a period of time. 2nd year as Lead Teacher.
Master's degree: Opportunity provided to Relay Teaching Residents

Eligible staff: Special Education or general education teachers who would like to become certified in SPED
Duration: Two years: 1st year Promise Teachers will teach Special Education. 2nd year Promise Teachers will continue to teach Special Education and will have the opportunity to apply for Master Teacher in Special Education.

 Pathway to Leadership

Tuition-free leadership programs provide the training, coaching, framework, and real-world experience individuals need to build capacity for instructional leadership as a teacher leader or as a school administrator. Training may include virtual and on-site coaching.

Emerging Leaders

Emerging Leaders Program
Eligible staff: Teacher leaders, instructional coaches, assistant principals, coordinators or directors
Duration: 1 year, SY 2018-19
Deadline: Applications period for 2019-2020 school year will reopen in fall 2018

Region 20 ESC Bexar PREP

Region 20 ESC Bexar PREP
Eligible staff: Assistant or Associate Principal
Duration: 6 all-day sessions throughout the school year (3 in fall, 3 in spring)
Deadline: August 2019

Eligible staff: Assistant/Associate Principals
-Bachelor's degree
-Valid Texas Teaching Certificate with required endorsements for subject and level assigned
-Valid Principal or Mid Management certification

Trinity University logo Trinity University’s School Leaders’ Program
Eligible staff: Assistant and associate principals
Application Requirements:
Applicants must be recommended by their school district for the program. Those recommended will submit an online application for graduate admissions, including GRE scores or Miller Analogies Test scores, and a specialized application for the program due in February-March. The rigorous selection process includes a phone interview and an interactive daylong leadership simulation process for finalists. The cohort will be announced in April and the program will launch with a summer session in June.
Personal Cost:
After fellowship funding and endowment scholarship support, the candidate is responsible for $15,000 for tuition.
