Two SAISD educators are H-E-B Excellence in Education finalists
Two SAISD educators have been spotlighted as some of the best educators in Texas. On March 26, Veronica Guerrero, kindergarten teacher at Hirsch ES, and Dr. Stephanie Ratliff, Douglass ES principal, received surprise announcements that they are H-E-B Excellence in Education finalists.
With balloons, flowers and cookies H-E-B representatives appeared during a morning assembly at Douglass ES to surprise its principal. Ratliff has been named a finalist in the Principal Elementary category. She received a $1,000 check for herself and a $2,500 check for her school.
By the afternoon, the District realized it had another finalist in its midst. H-E-B representatives appeared once again in the kindergarten classroom of Guerrero. She has been named a finalist in the Rising Star Elementary category. Guerrero received a $1,000 check for herself and a $1,000 check for her school.
SAISD’s two educators are among several finalists in the state.
All finalists will travel to Houston May 5 for face-to-face interviews to compete on a statewide level for larger cash prizes ranging from $5,000 to $25,000. An awards gala will be held May 6 to honor all finalists and announce overall awardees.
H-E-B’s Excellence in Education is the largest monetary awards program for educators in Texas, and among the largest in the nation. This year, H-E-B is surprising a total of 40 finalists across the state and awarding $95,000 to principals and teachers.
