SAISD commemorates Police Week

The Honor Guard of the San Antonio ISD Police Department conducted a flag raising ceremony Tuesday morning at the SAISD Central Office to commemorate Police Week. The ceremony was held at 8:30 a.m. on Peace Officers’ Memorial Day, which annually falls on May 15.

The ceremony honors all law enforcement officers killed in the line of duty, and specifically the department is remembering Sergeant William “Billy Bob” Maldonado who lost his life working a crash scene on May 26, 1994.

The ceremony also recognizes and honors the passing of Sergeant Paul Taormina who passed away on May 22, 2014, and the former Chief of Police Jeff Ward who passed away May 7, 2018.

Read the 1963 Presidential proclamation designating May 15 of each year as Peace Officers’ Memorial Day.
