Oct. 9 (Tues) – Public hearings and School Board meeting A
5:30 p.m. at the Burnet Center, 406 Barrera St.
The School Board meeting will follow public hearings on School FIRST (State Financial Accountability Rating) and the 2018-19 targeted improvement plans.
Oct. 10 (Wed) – Solar-powered windmill donation
11:30 a.m. at Storm Elementary School, 435 Brady Blvd.
The West San Antonio Chamber of Commerce is donating 10 solar-powered windmill kits to the elementary school. During a science class, chamber members will speak to students about solar energy and present the kits.
Oct. 10 (Wed) – SAISD Bond 2016 Community Meeting
5 p.m. at Rogers Middle School, Cafeteria, 3000 Tampico St.
SAISD is holding a public meeting to share information about the $28,790,583 Bond 2016 program at Rogers Middle School. District facilities staff, including project managers, architects and school leaders will share preliminary plans and designs, and ask for community input. Project architect is Pfluger Architects.
Oct. 11 (Thurs) – Humanities Texas award presentation
9 a.m. at Lanier High School, 1514 W. Cesar E. Chavez Blvd.
Texas Senator José Menéndez will be on hand to honor Lanier High School teacher Erin Gutierrez-Harbor as one of only 12 recipients in the state with a 2018 Humanities Texas Outstanding Teaching of the Humanities Award. Gutierrez-Harbor teaches U.S. history, world history, government, and economics at Lanier. She will receive a $5,000 prize, with an additional $500 for her school to purchase instructional materials.
Oct. 11 (Thurs) – SAISD Bond 2016 Community Meeting
5:30 p.m. at Fox Tech High School, Senior Dining Room, 637 N. Main Ave.
SAISD is holding a public meeting to share information about the $26,264,880 Bond 2016 program at Fox Tech High School. District facilities staff, including project managers, architects and school leaders will share preliminary plans and designs, and ask for community input. Project architect is Munoz & Co.
Oct. 13 (Sat) – SAWS Customer Assistance Fair
9 a.m. to 11 a.m. at Burbank High School, 1002 Edwards St.
Residents will learn whether they qualify to save money on their water bills. This free community event includes a San Antonio Food Bank mobile pantry at no cost on a first-come, first-served basis. The event is offered by Councilwoman Shirley Gonzales and the San Antonio Water System.
Oct. 10-12 – Bullying Prevention Month activities

October is National Bullying Prevention Month. Different businesses and organizations are working with schools to promote awareness in engaging, creative and memorable ways. Upcoming events include:
● Oct. 10 (Wed), 1:30 p.m. at Briscoe Elementary School, 2015 S. Flores St. – H-E-B’s “Be A Buddy, Not A Bully” high-energy musical.
● Oct. 12 (Fri), 1 p.m. at Whittier Middle School, 2101 Edison Drive – “Don’t Be A Monster” assembly with mascot Frank. This presentation is put on by haunted house actors during the Halloween season.
Oct. 10-11 – Free family fitness classes

The popular Zumba dance fitness program classes are free and offered in partnership with Health Collaborative, a local network of citizens, community organizations and businesses. Upcoming sessions will be:

● Oct. 11 (Thurs) – 5:45 p.m. at Herff Academy, 996 S. Hackberry St.
