TFLA Winner Martha Vazquez
Martha Vásquez, SAISD coordinator for World Languages, has been named Administrator of the Year by the Texas Foreign Language Association (TFLA). She was honored at the Association’s annual conference held this year in downtown San Antonio.
“Martha is a visionary who leads with a passion for what is possible for our students,” said Liz Ozuna, executive director of SAISD Advanced Academics. “She has built a world language teaching team across our district that has opened up innovative and blended opportunities for students to explore multiple languages while also building a world class world language program that seeks to assure that students are proficient in the language they have chosen to learn.”
The TFLA Administrator of the Year Award is given to school administrators who have distinguished themselves through their support of the foreign language program in their schools. Vásquez was selected from a pool of applicants that included superintendents, principals (K-12), deans, presidents of colleges and universities, as well as campus and central office administrators.
“As we move forward, Martha’s vision integrates the best of 21st Century learning with the values that come when students understand a culture through the study of the language,” said Ozuna. “We look forward to celebrating many more milestones as she continues to make her vision real!”
