Staff and students will have particular cause for gratitude on “Giving Tuesday” as recipients of $500 Mini-Grants from the SAISD Foundation. They will learn of the gifts during surprise visits to their schools during this international observance in response to the consumerism of Black Friday and Cyber Monday. In total, 46 grants will be awarded at six schools on “Giving Tuesday.”
A Steele Montessori Academy grant, “Photography Program” will fund young (1st and 2nd grade) artists-in-training to expand their artistic narrative through visual forms. Students will begin one-on-one training learning all aspects of the digital camera. A second grant “STEAM in Montessori Classroom” will explore creative opportunities for building basic skills in science, technology, engineering, art and mathematics.
Lowell Middle School will receive a grant to create the “Fishers of Men” group, which allows students the opportunity to bond with positive role models while outdoors fishing and build healthy relationships with school leaders. Another grant to be awarded at the campus will help “Pep up the Pep Squad.” The goal of this grant is to allow team members to be uniformed, creating a sense of belonging and motivation among athletics teams.
“Giving Tuesday” will kick off the presentations of 155 Mini-Grants across 59 SAISD campuses through December.
