May 11 (Sat) – Lanier High School renovation plans shared at community open house
10 a.m. to 2 p.m., with remarks at 10:30 a.m., Lanier High School, 1514 W. Cesar E. Chavez Blvd.
Lanier High School alumni, students and community members will get a glimpse of the new state-of-the-art campus plans getting underway during this community event. A walk-through will precede the start of construction for the $46.9 million renovation.
May 11 (Sat) – Orientation for new YWLA-Primary
9 a.m. to 11:45 a.m. at Young Women’s Leadership Academy, 2123 W. Huisache Ave.
Parents and students of the inaugural cohort for Young Women’s Leadership Academy-Primary will meet for the first time during this orientation session.
May 11 (Sat) – Distinguished graduate
10 a.m. at Freeman Coliseum, 3201 E. Houston St.
A senior at Travis Early College High School will walk the stage during San Antonio College’s commencement ceremony as a Distinguished Graduate in Liberal Arts. Lauren Gonzalez will graduate with an associate degree first, and in four weeks on June 7, she will receive her high school diploma with her Travis classmates.
May 13 (Mon) – Chef Jason Dady demo and check presentation
10 a.m. at Lanier High School, 1514 W. Cesar E. Chavez Blvd.
Chef Jason Dady will give a demonstration for culinary students at Lanier High School. He also will present a check to the school’s culinary program.
May 13 (Mon) – Congressional art winner announced
2 p.m. at Highlands High School, 3118 Elgin Ave.
U.S. Rep. Lloyd Doggett will announce the 2019 winner of the Congressional High School Art Competition for District 35 as a student at Highlands High School. The winner’s original piece will be featured in the Capitol in Washington, D.C., for a year, providing this student and SAISD national exposure. The student will receive two roundtrip tickets to Washington, D.C., to attend a June ceremony unveiling the artwork at the Capitol.

Canvass of Election Returns and Oath of Office to follow meeting at 7:30 p.m.
May 14 (Tues) – SAISD job fair for support positions
9 a.m. to noon at Alamo Convocation Center, 110 Tuleta Drive
San Antonio ISD is holding a classified job fair to fill 260 support positions for the 2019-2020 school year. Open positions include bus drivers, clerical, custodial, food service, skilled trades and substitute teachers.
May 15 (Wed) – Peace Officers Memorial Day
8 a.m. at SAISD Administration Office, 141 Lavaca St.
The Honor Guard of the San Antonio ISD Police Department will conduct a flag-raising ceremony at the SAISD Central Office to commemorate Police Week. The ceremony will be held on Peace Officers’ Memorial Day, which annually falls on May 15. The ceremony honors all law enforcement officers killed in the line of duty.
May 15 (Wed) – Shining Scholars and College Commitment Ceremony
6 p.m. at Alamo Convocation Center, 110 Tuleta Drive
Outstanding members of SAISD’s senior class will be honored for a variety of academic accomplishments in a fun, festive environment. Students also will be announcing their college decisions.
May 16 (Thurs) – Night of Champions
6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Alamo Convocation Center, 110 Tuleta Drive
In the spotlight will be members of SAISD’s class of 2019, who will be honored for a variety of athletic accomplishments.
May 16 (Thurs) – Mini-cheer showcase
6 p.m. at Herff Academy, 996 S. Hackberry St.
Pre-kindergarten through first grade students will show off their cheerleading skills that they have been practicing all year.
May 17 (Fri) – Culture Fest
5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Twain Dual Language Academy, 2411 San Pedro Ave.
Families will enjoy a free community event with food, crafts, culture and fun. Student performances will include music and dance.
May 17 (Fri) – International Baccalaureate Pin and Stole Ceremony
6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at Burbank High School, 1002 Edwards St.
Members of the class of 2019 who are graduating from the school’s prestigious International Baccalaureate program will be honored. Also honored will be members of the Class of 2018 who are returning to receive their IB Diploma.
May 18 (Sat) – San Antonio Gaming Tournament
9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at CAST Tech High School, 637 N. Main Ave.
Students in grades 8-11 will compete in a gaming tournament hosted by the CAST Tech High School Gaming Club. Participants will play Super Smash Bros, competing in Ultimate Singles and/or Melee Singles.
May 18 (Sat) – Fallen Heroes Memorial unveiled
10 a.m. at Fox Tech High School, 637 N. Main Ave.
The Fox Tech High School’s San Antonio Fallen Heroes Faces with Names Committee will unveil a granite memorial on campus to honor 23 Fox Tech students who have lost their lives during war. Fox Tech Vietnam Veterans also will be honored.
May 18 (Sat) – Chess and Scrabble tournament
10:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Schenck Elementary School, 101 Kate Schenck Ave.
Students across San Antonio ISD in all grade levels will participate in the annual chess and scrabble tournament, hosted by the District’s Gifted and Talented Education Department.
