Standing tall and proud is a graduate from Travis ECHS. SAISD concluded its commencement ceremonies for the Class of 2013 June 16. The District had 12 schools host graduation ceremonies in the month of June.

The Herff Elementary Book Mobile was a hit on its first day out, as principal Traci Smith and volunteer staff took to the neighborhoods to ensure children are reading while school is closed for the summer.

The SAISD Summer Musical Theatre Camp opened this week to about 40 students that represent multiple schools in the District. The group is busy preparing for their performance of “Schoolhouse Rock Live! Jr.” at the Playhouse in San Antonio June 22.

First to use the library’s new reading nook at Wheatley MS are students with retired Spur David Robinson and current players Patty Mills and Matt Bonner.  The library refurbishment includes computers, books and furniture thanks to the NBA, Spurs and State Farm Insurance.

Lanier HS Graduate Rudy Martinez proudly holds his award after being recognized at the San Antonio City Council meeting for being a member of the Young Achiever of Boys & Girls Clubs and winning the Gates Millennium Scholarship.  Rudy will attend the University of Texas at Austin McCombs School of Business this fall.

The video production crew at Brackenridge HS are all smiles this week. The group is working with NowCast to live stream all 12 SAISD commencement ceremonies this month. This is the third straight year that Teacher Robert Blackard’s class has web stream the District graduations.

Happy recipients of a new set of wheels are these Madison ES students. Nearly 90 whose attendance was perfect this year received the bikes through donations from corporate sponsors.
